Hi, I'm Özge. I make jewelry born from women's words.

Poemira started when a lot in my life was changing at once. I was reading constantly, mostly women, and I kept underlining lines that said exactly what I was feeling. Some of them were written two hundred years ago. A woman I would never meet had already been through it and written it down.

It also made me think about how hard it was for those words to reach me at all. Emily Dickinson kept almost all of her poems in a drawer. The Brontë sisters had to publish under men's names. Women have always written honestly about their own lives, and for a long time very few people were listening.

I wanted to make sure those words never go back in a drawer. So I turn them into jewelry.

Every piece starts with one line, either from classic literature written by women or from my own poetry. I choose natural gemstones for what that line means and make each piece by hand in Lisbon. 

Each piece comes with a poem card carrying the line it came from. You always know what you're wearing and why.

Most of the women who find Poemira are in the middle of something: a move, a new job, an ending, a fresh start. I know that place well. On the days you doubt yourself, it helps to have a woman's words on you, saying the thing you already believe.
